Essential Positive Parenting Skills to Nurture

Being a parent is no easy task. It’s cumbersome but deeply rewarding at the same time. But positive parenting enables you to navigate the tricky world of parenthood smoothly. As one of the best CBSE schools in Dehradun, we share some valuable tips.

Action, not words

It is true that action speak louder than words. Instead of yelling or constantly nagging to your child about something wrong they’ve done, think about what action you can take to make more impact. If your child habitually rolls up his/her socks while taking them off, then instead of scolding the child, wash only the unrolled ones.

Show them how to do things

It is better to assign your kids some responsibility and tasks that make them feel important and keep them engaged as well. Help them understand how certain things are done. Ask for their advice and opinion while doing some routine task. As adults, we can do the tasks better than the kids but it is necessary to make them feel relevant.

Withdraw from conflict

If your child is being difficult by throwing tantrums or behaving disrespectfully with you, the best way to react is to withdraw from the situation. Don’t react with aggression as that is only going to do more harm. Leave the room quietly and calmly, without any sign of rage or sadness. Tell your child if he wants to try again or talk, you’ll be in the next room.

Separate the deed from the doer

It is important to know that what a child does is not who he/she is. If children are behaving rowdily or impertinently, that’s just their behaviour and not their personality or character. Make sure you kids know this too, that when you are calling them out for their rudeness you are upset with their behaviour and not with who they are. When this distinction is made clear, it protects their self-esteem.

Heritage North Campus, the best school in Dehradun, always strives to give students and parents valuable resources and experiences for wholesome development of children.

How COVID-19 Could Change How We Educate in Future

Coronavirus-related disruption has made educators and teachers rethink how to impart education. As in these crucial times, technology has stepped in to rescue the education sector and shall also continue to play an important role in the years to come. Knowledge has become a click away, and educators also need to adapt accordingly.

World War II was the last time when so many countries around the world saw schools and educational institutions go into total lockdown. While we all know that the impact of this virus will be extensive, what would it mean for the long term for education?

The majority of the students in the present scenario are from generation Z, meaning a generation which has grown in a fully globalized economy, and the teachers belonging to a generation of baby boomers. Therefore there is a generation gap but letting it undermine us is only going to hinder the process of learning.

The COVID-19 crisis has changed the global outlook, and as the best school in Dehradun, we have discussed below how education needs to adapt to better prepare the younger ones for the future. These lessons include:

Educating Citizens in an Interconnected World

This pandemic has only taught us how globally interconnected we are and has just proved that there is no such thing as isolation actions and issues. The key is to navigate across boundaries and understand the interrelatedness and also work collaboratively.

Redefining the Role of the Educator

The role of the educator should not be just limited to imparting education and facilitate young people’s development but also to contribute as active members of society. The idea of an educator only being a knowledge-holder who imparts wisdom to his pupils doesn’t deem fit in the present scenario.

Teaching Life Skills Needed for the Future

Young people require resilience and adaptability-skills that have proved to be essential to navigating effectively through this pandemic. In the coming future, employers are searching for skills like creativity, communication, collaboration along with emotional intelligence.

Unblocking Technology to Deliver Education

The educational institutions across the world are all of a sudden compelled to embrace and harness the advantages technology has to offer. They have utilized the technological tools to create content for remote learning for their students. The Heritage School North Campus, a visionary CBSE school in Dehradun, understands the significance of how technology is working to break the barriers for the education sector in this epidemic.

Tips to Improve your Child’s Focus

Any task done halfheartedly leads to poor results. As soon as the kids enforce this in life, nothing can keep them behind. It is of paramount importance to indulge toddlers in tasks that would help their brains develop efficiently and improve their concentration.

The Heritage School North Campus, frequently listed among one of the best schools in Dehradun brings you a few tips to help in improving a child’s focus and concentration power.

Make Learning Fun

Kids usually learn better when playing. Try to keep the tablets and mobile phones away from them for a while and turn to think games. Gadgets reduce the attention span of the observer, so make sure your kids are not glued to a blue screen all day long. Encourage them to solve crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. You can also play building blocks games like Lego or Jenga.

Set a Deadline

Setting a time threshold can help the child concentrate better. When the kids are aware of the fact that they have a limited period for a given task, they tend to function with more attentiveness. But ensure that the hanging deadlines do not hamper with the quality of the work.

Have Patience

At the end of the day, kids will be kids and sometimes kids can be a handful to deal with. Every kid functions at his or her own pace. If you feel that you and your child are not on the same page, try to meet each other halfway. Be extremely patient when dealing with toddlers and their impressionable minds.

Lockdown of schools, movie theatres, shops, restaurants, or places where there are mass gatherings.
Working from home and shutting down offices.
Not going outside the house.
Restrictions on public transportation, including buses, trains or taxis.

What To Do?

While the coronavirus is spreading, it is better to follow the guidelines provided by the government and local health officials such as:

Keeping your family and loved ones at home by staying away from others as much as possible to reduce the transmission of the virus, as people who look healthy can still spread the virus.

Teaching Good Manners To Children

Etiquette connoisseur Emily Post famously remarked once, “Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others.” And it couldn’t be truer. Good manners teach children to be more considerate, kind, and compassionate.

Sadly, these days manners are slowly fading away from our life. Therefore, The Heritage School North Campus, best CBSE school in Uttarakhand, feels the sooner we start to teach kids the rudiments of good manners and appropriate social etiquette, the better it is. Here’s how you can do this:

Start Slow And Easy

Instilling good manners in children is a long-term process so you better start early. Here are the magic words that can make all the difference to someone’s day – “Please”, “Thank You”, “Sorry”, “You’re welcome”, “Excuse me”, “Could you please...?” and “ May I?”. Politeness should always be the order of the day.

Watch Your Language

Children are innocent and oblivious to what is right or wrong, so they might say things that could be inappropriate. More often than not children pick up on your talking style and language thinking it to be cool, so as parents you need to be careful about not using words you would use with another adult in front of children.

Table Manners For Toddlers

Table manners are basic social etiquette that every child must know. Yes, getting children to eat is difficult enough and with the added burden of teaching them proper table manners, it gets even more exasperating. Start with basics like putting napping on the lap, eating with mouth closes, finishing the food and cleaning the table once done.

Correct Bad Manners

Of course, there are going to be times when children will slip up and act out of line. Sometimes they will scream when they can’t get what they want or their behaviour may cause discomfort to someone else. In such cases, you should reprove them as kindly and softly as possible without hurting their feelings. Correcting their bad manners on the spot will help them in retaining these lessons for the rest of their life.

Sharing

One of the most profound joys of life comes from sharing your things with people who need them. Children learn the first steps of sharing at home by sharing their stuff with their siblings. Encourage them to share their toys with their friends as well. It will raise them into compassionate and charitable adults that can change the society for the better.

Children require work and patience on the part of parents, especially when teaching them the p’s and q’s of proper behaviour. Being among the top 5 schools in Dehradun, Heritage School North Campus makes sure the efforts put in will result in a well-behaved, obedient and docile child brought up with good values that everyone will love.

Acoustics

Acoustics are often ignored while designing a classroom but they play a very vital role in students’ learning. You can negate the sound of surroundings by using mats and soft surface on the floor. Sound reverberation can be avoided by hanging soft corkboards on the wall.

Colour Scheme

The colours of the walls can affect the learning experience of students. There are psychological effects of colours on the human body. While designing a classroom yellow and red colour should be avoided as they increase aggression and adrenaline rush in students. A balance of cool and warm colours can bring out a pleasing effect and can help learn students better.

Furniture Arrangement

Furniture should be properly arranged to facilitate learning. The furniture should be comfortable and light in weight so that students can move them easily.  There should be proper spacing in between the desks to ensure that the classroom doesn’t look cluttered.

Kids need the best of both worlds while growing up. Physical activity is equally as important as academics. Students, spend a lot of time at school, which is divided as such that the students are able to grasp the maximum and don’t even get exhausted. The studies are also not very tough and complex. Children should be involved in sports like tennis, squash, music classes, etc. These activities help students to move in more directions and discover new hobbies and feel free to explore different horizons. This helps them to challenge their curiosity and creativity to reveal their full potential.

We believe that the children should get some homework that they could revise and go through what they learned in the class under the guidance of their parents. The need for home tuitions should only emerge when your kids are having problems, learning some subject which even the parents are not able to help with, the best way to deal with such scenario is by getting in touch with teachers.  Children like to play in the rain and mud and they should be dressed accordingly. Using a raincoat and umbrella is must but apart these you should dress up your child in full and loose clothes. Full sleeves clothes will protect your child from mosquito bites and loose clothes will help the child to breathe. Gumboots are also important to protect tiny feet for your child.

Maintain Hygienic Conditions

As the monsoon season comes with bacteria, germs, and viruses which can cause serious illness, so you need to take precautions. Being among the best CBSE Schools in Dehradun , we suggest you to keep yourself and your child dry and clean. Don’t let the rain ruin the fun and excitement of  your child.

Get Ready for Back to School

Back to school after a long summer break is a change not only for children but also for parents. While children feel excited and enthusiastic, parents are filled with a little stress and pressure. At The Heritage North Campus, CBSE School in Dehradun, we understand that preparing a child before school reopens is important. So here are a few tips which can help your child to get prepared for the new term.

Back to your sleep routine - summer holidays are all about fun which sometimes include going late to bed. By setting a regular bedtime and morning time routine will help your child get ready for school. Start following this routine one week before the school starts.

Pack your bags and get ready with your uniforms - Put down all books, notebooks and holidays homework and pack it well with your child. Get the school uniform ironed and make your child first day ready.

Back to homework - Sit down with your child and plan the time within which he has to do his/her homework every day. Make him/her read the textbook on a daily basis which will help the child to get prepared for the exams.

Remember breakfast before going to school - Healthy breakfast is important to keep the child active for the school. Prepare a breakfast full of proteins and nutrition, which may include fruits and milk.

Encourage the child to do well academically - Preparing from the beginning will surely help your child to secure good marks in exams. Encourage your child to study from the beginning to get good results.

After school game plan - Playing for a while every day will be helpful during the growth years of a child. Plan with your child and help him/her to manage the study hours and playing hours.

Being one of the Best CBSE Schools in Dehradun, we know that preparing everything beforehand will help your child to do things in an organized manner and will help him to do well in the new term.

Experiencing What We Read in Books

Knowledge can be found at every corner around us, be it books, flora and fauna, nature and our surroundings. We just need that insight to learn what our surroundings are trying to teach us. Students should be taught about their surroundings. We being one of  the Best Dehradun Schools believe, nature gives us practical knowledge, something which leaves a long-lasting impact. This is why we encourage field trips. Books give students theoretical knowledge and field trips make them practically sound. Field trips help students to experience what they read about in books. There are various types of field trips like science field trip, history field trip, environmental field trip, cultural field trip and fun field trip.

Each trip has its own significance and learning. Where a science trip makes students experience the magic of science live, historical trips help them to visit historical places and see the wonders of our history. An environmental trip makes the students aware of their environment while a cultural trip illuminates them about their and other students’ culture. This helps in boosting their friendships and makes them stronger socially. “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” and so to rejuvenate our students’ energy we take them on a fun-filled ride. These trips help them to relax and make their bonds stronger.

Another important factor of these trips is that they give students a better understanding of what they read in books. When they visualize a certain process, it gets retained in their mind. They will remember it through their experiences. Field trips also encourage students to think further and develop their concepts related to it. Studies show that students who visit places they read about in books and practical experience the contents of their study, perform better. This is what reflects in our students.

At The Heritage School – North Campus, one of the top 10 schools in Dehradun, we encourage our students to explore the world because the world out there is full of wisdom and enlightenment.
