Importance of Early Brain Development of a Child

Early childhood brain development has a very deep impact on the growth of a child. A newborn’s brain is about a quarter of the size of the average adult brain. Interestingly, it doubles in size in the first year. 90% of the human brain is developed by the age of five. The parents, as well as the teachers, need to focus on the brain development of a child at this stage. The Heritage School North Campus, top school CBSE Dehradun, explains the importance of early brain development.

The human brain is made up of brain cells called neurons that create connections known as synapses. These connections are formed when the child encounters different experiences, ranging variedly from one to another. Every new experience creates new connections in the brain. The repetition of the experiences sends repeated synapses to the brain and strengthens the connections. Similarly, connections that are not used often disappear.

The formation of new neurons and synapses is fastest at the time of birth and gradually slows down, and that is the reason that the toddlers can learn faster than the adults. At the time of the birth of a child, the brain has already grown to 25% of adult size, and by the age of 3, the human brain reaches 80% of its adult size. Different areas of the brain handle different functions. The optimal time for enhancing the brain function is when the brain cells are being created in the relevant area of the brain and the synapses are constantly being programmed.

Loving relationships with parents who consistently give attention, respond, and interact with their child are essential to a child’s healthy development. Being one of the best CBSE schools in Dehradun, we put great emphasis and focus on the early brain development of a child in his/her growing years.

Benefits of Storytelling to Toddlers

Umberto Eco once said, “To survive, you must tell stories.” Bedtime stories, campfire stories, rainy day stories, all are a very essential aspect of one’s childhood. The plot twists, enchanting places, evil witches, brave knights, fire breathing dragons take the kids to an unexplored world.

Here is a list of benefits by The Heritage School North Campus, the best CBSE School Dehradun explaining how storytelling enhances the overall growth of toddlers:

Inculcating Moral Values

Storytelling has a unique way of instilling morals and building strong characters. Just as the story progresses different aspects of the plot unfolds which makes the children ponder about the morality and decision making of the kids.

Urges Curiosity

Children are curious creatures. Storytelling fuels this curiosity. The more involved kids are in the story, the number of questions they will ask. This will help in better development of critical thinking and reasoning.

Increases Imagination

A well-narrated story can grant free rein to the imagination of the kids. Particularly, the stories with the elements of fantasy and speculation take the reader to places.

Improves Concentration

Storytelling also works on the listening skills and concentration levels of individuals. In addition to this, it also boosts the memory of the kid. Whether the story is short or long, the kids clearly remember the name of the characters and the plot twists.

Enriches Vocabulary

Storytelling is a practical and powerful tool for language learning. It enhances vocabulary while making the process interesting enough to keep the kids engaged.

Increase in Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence refers to the ability of an individual to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships with empathy.

At The Heritage School North Campus, listed among the top 10 schools in Dehradun developing creative skills is as important as achieving academic excellence.

Importance of Going Outside the Classroom

Times have drastically changed. A crucial part of childhood has now abruptly changed to become time spent indoors. Due to various factors, children are confined indoors, we can blame technology for this. But the fact that outdoor playing is beneficial for every student remains unchallenged.

So, why is getting outdoors so important for your child?

As the best CBSE school in Dehradun, we have mentioned below the reasons illustrating precisely that:

The Sun

The most scientific reason is that sun exposure is essential for your child. Vitamin D enforces calcium and leads to the development of stronger bones.

Development of Executive Function

The skills that help a child plan, prioritize, troubleshoot, negotiate, and multitask are important for achieving success in life. To develop this children require unstructured time. This ensures that children are flexing their creative muscle.

Exercise

Being outdoors essentially gives children a lot more space to run around and encourage active play, which is considered the best kind for young children

Socializing

Playing outside encourages teamwork between children and helps them in developing social skills. Making friends, sharing and cooperating are all skills that cannot be fully developed in structured settings.

Embracing Independence

It is in the time away from adult supervision that a child truly develops their personality and lean into being independent and self-reliant.

Room to Explore

Being outside truly helps children push their boundaries. Whether it is going down a slide or developing a new game from scratch, children are open to trying new things out in the open.

Better Sleep Cycles

Playing outside helps young children absorb sunlight which directly impacts and regulates the body clock, this helps them cultivate better sleep cycles.

Keeping all this in mind we at The Heritage School North Campus, counted among top CBSE schools in Dehradun, ensure that our children get out of the classroom and get to experience the benefits of outdoor play.

Interesting Classroom Games

Learning doesn’t have to be monotonous. When children are performing activities in the class, they get to bring out their creative side. Games encourage classroom engagement and help them discover their capabilities.

We at The Heritage School-North Campus, the best CBSE school in Dehradun, have come up with exciting games that teachers can incorporate to make learning fun:

Charades

Make two teams. Select a child from one group and make him act. Let the other members guess what he is trying to portray with his actions. The child is not allowed to speak or use the board. If they guess correctly, they win a point.

Pictionary

Pictionary is a charade inspired game where you draw an object.  Make two groups and just like charade select one member and tell him to make something on the whiteboard.

Puzzles

Arrange students in a group of five or six and give them puzzles to solve. Let them put the pieces in whatever way they want. It enhances critical thinking while increasing their reasoning.

True or False

Formulate a few questions based on what students have studied in the classroom. Ask them if what you are asking is right or wrong. Give points for each correct answer.

What Did You See?

Arrange a few objects on a table. Ask one of the children to look at them for 10 seconds. Quickly cover them up and ask him to make the list of things he saw in the same arrangement.

Tongue Twisters

Students are made to say phrases that are complicated. The result can be quite interesting and funny.

Some of the tongue twisters you can make the students say are:

• How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

• She sells sea shells by the seashore, And the shells she sells by the seashore are seashells for sure.

• Stupid superstition

Treasuring Honesty

It is important for our children to understand the value of honesty when they grow up. It is important for students to realize that telling lie would prevent us from helping them in the most inappropriate way. Given the environment and the growing competition, there is a temptation in students to act another way round than being honest. It is the responsibility of the teachers to guide and help students to help them embrace honesty and adopt it in their day to day to life so that it can lead them to everlasting success and peace.

We at The Heritage School North Campus being the Best School in Dehradun believes that teaching students the importance of honesty in their early stages of lives will help them establish positive and trusting relationship throughout their lives. Students need to be educated what is right and appropriate of their personal behaviour and their relationship with others.

We conduct different activities at our school through which students inculcate the state of being honest.

Read books based on Moral Stories:

One of the most effective ways to teach students about honesty is read books to them that focus on some moral stories. Stories that praise the character for being honest are a great way to teach students about honesty. We talk to students about the activities that are transpiring in the story and help them understand the importance of such stories.

Art Activities:

Use art to instil the value of honesty in the students. We make them draw a picture of how they would feel when someone is honest to them or when someone is not honest with them. This way they will learn about empathy and will be able to recognize different positive aspects and negative association of being dishonest.

Appreciate Students:

We appreciate our students for being honest. We praise them for being honest so that they should feel valued and good about themselves for being honest. Being honest will lead them to form a network of friends who they can trust and respect and this is the mutual benefit that they derive for being honest.

The Heritage School North Campus listed among Top 10 Schools in Dehradun believes respectable and admired behaviour is always carried out with honesty. We inspire students to be honest and back it up with actions that show respect for what is right and wrong. We make them value their success in term of self-awareness, hard work, honesty, and emotional intelligence.

Tackling Anxiety on the First Day of School

Most kids get angst about their first day in school and some take the school to ease. Kids are attached to their parents, and not at all used to going out to new places without their parents. Change can be hard to adapt for all of us, sometimes.  It’s that stage when kids learn how to socialize with the fellow classmates.

We,  at one of the Top CBSE Schools in Dehradun, want to make sure that your child’s start of school is as smooth as possible! We all know how difficult it can be when they cry and stretch out to hug you so you don’t leave, it can be really hard for you to let go to that but don’t panic, your kid may grow to love it. It’s just that they don’t want to be there without you. The first thing you do is leave as calmly as you can and give your child a big hug and tell him you’ll pick him up after a nap or lunch just to console him that you’ll be around in a while.

How trained is your child for the bathroom? Make sure before they start preschool, you must potty train them. Otherwise, it could be really stressful for the helper and the kid.  So the best way could be by starting school early. Take your kid to school before it starts so that the place is no longer unfamiliar to them.  Admire new things; ensure the visit is very positive and happy.  Help children make friends by giving them cookies or cake so that they can attract friends automatically. Ask your child how their day was, what do they fear in the class so you can help boost their morale. Don’t send your kid by saying don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll make friends, you’re actually making him intimidated since it sends him a message that you expect him to do so.  Understand with him/her by saying, it's really scary going to a new school, right? How could we make it easier? Come up with answers to your own questions to make them speak up and comply with you.

Being the top CBSE school in dehradun, we believe that the best solution for any problem comes from experience and by not panicking, and we aim to help to ease the anxiety which students and parents might experience!
